AFNOR NF T 72-281 STANDARD
ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

What is the AFNOR NF T 72-281 standard and what are the germs tested?

WHAT IS THE AFNOR NF T 72-281 STANDARD FOR DISINFECTION OF SURFACES BY AIR (DSVA)?

The AFNOR NF T 72-281 standard for disinfection of surfaces by air established for more than 25 years by AFNOR Standardization, renewed in September 2014, makes it possible to reference, validate and certify the bactericidal, yuricidal, fungicidal, mycobactericidal, tuberculocidal efficacy, sporicide and virucide including bacteriophages from a pair of biocidal device / product from manufacturers of aerial surface disinfection systems (DSVA). The virucidal nature of the products recognized by the AFNOR NF T 72-281 standard therefore allows them to be effective against the SARS-CoV-2 responsible for Covid-19, among others.

To be certified, the product or device must be tested in an independent laboratory accredited by COFRAC in order to ensure the technical competence and impartiality of the organism of control.

SURFACE DISINFECTION: HOW EFFECTIVE DEPENDING ON THE TYPE OF TREATMENT?

Let us take the example of a surface from which the number of microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, etc.) to be eliminated is 1,000,000. We speak of « LOG » to express the degree of eradication of microorganisms. From a LOG to a higher LOG, the efficiency is multiplied by 10.

(*) based on an empty circle room (wall disinfection). The effective time of disinfection depends on how the rom mis shaped and furnished.

The biocidal efficacy requirements of AFNOR NF T 72-281 standard depend on the target organisms:

  • Bacteria : > reduction of 5 log
  • Spores: > reduction of 3 log
  • Mushrooms and yeasts : > reduction of 4 log
  • Viruses included phages: > reduction of 4 logs
  • Mycobacteria : > reduction of 4 logs

Initial conditions require a LOG above the LOG reduction target.

The method is intended to determine the disinfectant activity of the processes used in human and animal health, the food industry, the industrial sector, and communities.

It makes it possible to know the systems marketed according with the standard, that is to say having proved during the test their effectiveness in killing the strains proposed in the reference of the standard.

DOES BIO-UV GROUP IS CONFORMED TO THE AFNOR NF T 72-281 STANDARD FOR ITS RANGE BIO-SCAN ?

Yes, our entire BIO-SCAN range has successfully passed the test to be certified according to the NF T 72-281 standard. Our BIO-SCAN surface disinfection devices are certified bactericidal (greater than 5 LOG, i.e. greater than 99.999%) and virucidal (greater than 4 LOG, i.e. greater than 99.99%).

You will be able to find on all our product web pages the certificates provides by an independant laboratory, BIOFAQ Laboratory accredited by COFRAC.

As our owner and the Kempinski Frankfurt management understand it, luxury has an all-new meaning today: Five-star hotels have to invest in protecting the health of their guests and employees. We are very proud to fulfil this expectation. We had been speaking to a variety of manufacturers since the start of the pandemic in mid-March 2020; in the end, we decided to work with the BIO-UV Group and Vitec Microgenix Ltd. We started by testing six rooms in the autumn. They were available for guest bookings, and weekly smears were taken for delivery to an independent laboratory in England. The results ultimately convinced us to work with these two companies.
