What is the VSC1000 antimicrobial technology?

VSC 1000 is a 6th generation Silane-Quaternary Ammonium Compound (“Si-Quat”). It is the only patented Si-Quat compound to provide ongoing surface protection against 99.99% of enveloped viruses, bacteria, fungi and protozoa for up to 12 months after a single application. VSC1000 eliminates microbes using a “mechanical kill”.

How does VSC1000 work? What is a mechanical kill?

One part of VSC1000 forms a permanent (covalent) bond with surfaces. The remaining carbon part of VSC1000 is a carbon chain which penetrates the membrane of enveloped microorganisms causing immediate physical disruption and death of the virus / bacteria / fungi / protozoa. This is often referred to as a ”mechanical kill”.

Does VSC1000 work against Covid-19?

VSC 1000 works rapidly and effectively against coronaviruses and continues to provide ongoing protection against  coronaviruses for up to 12 months. This includes past epidemics like SARS-CoV-1 and MERS. VSC1000 is yet to be tested against Covid-19 (SARS-CoV-2), but all previous tests indicate strongly that it will have the same efficacy.

How long is VSC1000 effective for?

Once bonded VSC1000 is becomes a permanent part of the surface giving ongoing protection against microorganisms. VSC1000 can only be removed by heavy abrasion or certain acids. In certain high-touch areas such as door handles and floors there is a risk of the VSC1000 coating becoming covered by dirt or residue, affecting its ability to eliminate microbes. It is therefore important to maintain a regular cleaning regime in such areas.

Laboratory and clinical studies have shown the effect of VSC1000 continuing at 12 months post application.

What is the difference between VSC1000 and other antimicrobials?

The technology behind VSC1000 has been extensively patented around the world. The unique feature of VSC1000 is its stabilisation method which allows for the product to be stored in water. Although many competing products claim similar features, VSC1000 is the only antimicrobial chemical to have the water-stabilisation technology patented.

The benefits to users of the VSC1000 water-stabilisation feature are multiple:

  • Lasts longer on surfaces
  • Disinfection treatment as well as ongoing protection.
  • Easier to handle and apply
  • Easier to transport / store
  • Less toxic, less flammable
  • Longer shelf life

Laboratory and clinical studies have shown the effect of VSC1000 continuing at 12 months post application.

How does VSC1000 affect the environment?

As VSC1000 forms a permanent covalent bond with the applied surface it is completely safe to the immediate and wider environment. Unlike other chemicals no leaching of the product occurs and as such the effect on animal, aquatic and other environmental factors is eliminated. The ongoing protection provided by VSC1000 also reduces the impact from other disinfectants and cleaners which after application are used less frequently.

As our owner and the Kempinski Frankfurt management understand it, luxury has an all-new meaning today: Five-star hotels have to invest in protecting the health of their guests and employees. We are very proud to fulfil this expectation. We had been speaking to a variety of manufacturers since the start of the pandemic in mid-March 2020; in the end, we decided to work with the BIO-UV Group and Vitec Microgenix Ltd. We started by testing six rooms in the autumn. They were available for guest bookings, and weekly smears were taken for delivery to an independent laboratory in England. The results ultimately convinced us to work with these two companies.
